According to estimates in a recent NIH-funded study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, nearly half of all deaths from heart disease, strokes, and type 2 diabetes in the U.S. are associated with dietary factors. The factors include low intakes of fruits, vegetables, seafood, whole grains and nuts, along with excessive intakes of processed meats, sugary beverages, and sodium. More deaths among men (49%) than women (42%) were linked to these factors, primarily because of men’s “generally unhealthier dietary habits” the researchers suggested.
We can make an immense difference in our well-being by following a healthy diet, as everything we eat and drink impacts our health and wellness. Even small steps taken toward a better diet can produce significant rewards. And what better reward in life can we experience than great health!
