Veterans’ Day was originally called Armistice Day and was established to honor those who served in WWI. The name would probably still be Armistice Day if WWI had lived up to the name “the war to end all wars”. In 1954, President Eisenhower, himself a WWII veteran, signed a bill that changed the name and also expanded the purpose to include honoring all members of the armed services who served in any war.
We are so proud of the many military veterans who reside at The Gables. We want to honor them on Veterans’ Day with individual recognition and thanks for their total 134 years of service to our country. Their service covered three wars: WWII, Korea and Vietnam!
